Need for Coaching
Without going into debate, the actual need of getting coached arises from the fact that today a medical or dental graduate is facing so much distraction in daily academic and personal life that the required focused attention for entrance exam preparation needs a certain kind of serious outsourcing to keep up with the growing competition. Ultimately student himself/herself has to put in all the efforts and certainly his/her academic background matters. Thus, all said and done, coaching acts as a helping hand. It can not become a substitute for actual personal efforts to be taken by students. Coaching thus becomes essential due to:
Limited Time: Because of hospital duty during internship and other commitments after internship, the available time for PG preparation is much less than required. Inability to get a rank or good rank at PG entrance test at very first attempt, results in additional delay.
Changing Examination Trends: Students are appearing in many entrance exams with different pattern of each exam. Though the syllabus remains same, specific preparation for each exam is a must to get through with decent rank.
Learning alternatives: Existing learning alternatives (Like MCQ books & Guides) are deficient in many ways, such as:
Unusually high printing and technical / academic errors.
False sense of security, which prevails after reading only MCQs
No active feedback mechanism
Lack of focused approach on important topics
Immediate corrective feedback: To know "where I am wrong" is an important preparation input, which is only available with professional coaching. It is obvious that timely rectification of mistakes will fetch good results and in your case it means improved rank.
Competition: Every year app. 50000 MBBS / 8000 BDS graduates are appearing in AIPGE exam for much fewer PG seats across India. It rules out any casual and experimental approach in preparation. Very similar scene is seen with state PG entrance exams as well.
